How can you help the planet this earth day?
There are many different ways you can get involved this Earth Day, whether it’s a big group event or a solo clean-up, it’s easy to get involved. It only takes a small amount of effort from everyone for us to see a difference, here are some examples of things that can make a difference!
Use public transport
A great way to reduce your carbon footprint is by driving less and using public transportation more. When convenient, it is a great idea to take the bus or train to wherever you are visiting rather than driving!
Participate in a beach or park clean-up
Participating in a clean-up or litter pick is a brilliant way to help the environment, you can find any local clean-ups being organised online, or visit “The Great Global Cleanup” website. The Great Global Cleanup is a worldwide campaign to rid the environment of waste and plastic pollution for good.
Recycle and reuse items whenever possible
When we recycle, used materials are converted into new products, reducing the need to consume natural resources. More and more people recycle every day. This helps to reduce the need for landfill and more costly forms of disposal. When we recycle, recyclable materials are reprocessed into new products, and as a result, the amount of rubbish sent to landfill sites reduces.
Use reusable bags when shopping
Plastic bags may seem harmless, but they have a surprisingly large environmental footprint. Reusable shopping bags come in a huge variety of different materials and designs. From cotton and canvas to fabric made from recycled water bottles, consumers are spoilt for choice. Next time you pop into the shops, remember to take your own bags!
Eat fewer animal products to reduce your carbon footprint
According to scientists, avoiding meat and dairy products is the single biggest way to reduce your environmental impact on the planet. Even switching to one meat-free meal a week can make a small difference!
This Earth Day, why not try out some of the suggestions above, to help protect the planet.
