Glamping vs Camping – What are the differences?

The term glamping is a combination of the words “glamorous” and “camping” it is used to refer to a luxurious version of camping that has become increasingly popular over the last decade. To be official, the word was first used in the United Kingdom in 2005 and by 2016 it was officially added to the Oxford English Dictionary!

“Glamping is its modern equivalent, combining both yesterday’s amenities and today’s technology. Also called boutique camping, luxury camping, posh camping, or comfy camping”

In this blog post, we will explore the differences and similarities between glamping and camping, and help you decide which one suits you best! (Hint: it’s definitely glamping – specifically here at Tan Y Bryn!)

Camping is often seen as a way to get close to nature and experience a sense of adventure. It can be done alone, with a small group of friends, or with a larger group, such as a family outing. Glamping is a more luxurious and modern form of camping. Instead of tents or motorhomes, glampers stay in cabins, yurts, or even tree houses. Many glamping sites also offer additional amenities, such as private bathrooms, hot tubs, air conditioning, and even TVs. Glamping is a great way to experience nature, while still having the comforts of home. Since glamping is often more expensive than traditional camping, it is typically seen as a more luxurious experience.

Camping and glamping both involve spending time in nature, but in vastly different ways. Camping is typically seen as more of an immersive, traditional experience. It involves sleeping in a tent, cooking your own food over a campfire, and generally roughing it. Camping is often seen as an adventure filled with exploration and discovery. However, there is no reason you can’t combine the adventure of camping with the luxury of glamping!

Camping is great for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature. Camping allows for a low-cost and rustic experience, where you can experience nature in its purest form. You can sleep under the stars, explore the outdoors, and cook meals over a campfire. Although camping can be quite uncomfortable and tough, it is a great way to get in touch with yourself and the natural environment.

The main difference between camping and glamping is the level of comfort. Camping often involves more basic accommodations, while glamping provides more luxurious amenities. Camping is usually a more affordable option, while glamping can be quite pricey. Camping is also more accessible since it can be done almost anywhere. Glamping, on the other hand, is more limited since it typically requires more advanced facilities and amenities.

When it comes to comfort, glamping is definitely the winner. With warm, comfortable beds, blankets, and heating in some glamping sites, glampers can enjoy more privacy and a more comfortable sleeping experience. They also have access to hot showers and other amenities that are not typically available when camping. Campers, on the other hand, have to contend with sleeping in a tent and dealing with the elements.

The types of activities available to campers and glampers also vary. Campers can enjoy traditional camping activities such as hiking, fishing, and canoeing. Glampers, however, can enjoy more luxurious activities such as horseback riding, spa treatments, and wine tastings. Here at Tan Y Bryn, we offer a range of different extras to make each guest stay including a bouquet of Flowers for a special occasion, chocolate, Balloons for a special birthday/anniversary, and champagne just to name a few!

Ultimately, the choice between camping and glamping comes down to personal preference. Those who prefer a more traditional camping experience may opt for a traditional camping experience, while those who prefer more luxurious activities and amenities may opt for a lavish glamping site. Both options offer a unique way to enjoy the outdoors, but it’s up to the individual to decide which one is right for them.
